Eating Disorder Therapy in Utah
Eating disorders can affect much more than food and eating. They can influence how you experience your body, manage emotions, connect with others, and move through everyday life.
Eating disorders are serious, overwhelming, and distressing health conditions that affect both physical and mental health. Eating disorders change how you think and relate to food, eating, weight, body image, body shape, body satisfaction, and exercise. The symptoms of eating disorders can affect your ability to get the nutrition that your body needs and can cause harm to your organs and body and lead to other diseases. They can also affect your ability to function in important areas of your life. Eating disorders can also be linked to depression, anxiety, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts and behaviors.
At Grounded Integrative Therapy, we offer individualized, compassionate therapy for eating disorders and related concerns. Our approach considers emotional, behavioral, and mind-body experiences, helping you develop healthier ways of responding to difficult thoughts, emotions, and patterns.

Can therapy help with binge eating or body-image concerns?
Yes, we use evidence-based approaches to give you tools, psychoeducation, understanding, and techniques to (1) process your underlying concerns; (2) stop recurrent episodes of binge eating and purging; and (3) resolve feeling out of control while binging and the shame and guilt that frequently follows. Binge eating disorder is one of the most common eating disorders in the U.S. We also used evidence-based intervention to help you move from body hatred to body respect, acceptance, appreciation, peace, confidence and liberation. Social media focuses on body ideals and body positivity. We focus on helping you develop a respectful relationship with your body because it is through your body that you experience life.

Do you offer online eating disorder therapy in Utah?
Yes, depending on the severity of the eating disorder and client commitment to treatment.
How do you incorporate trauma-focused treatment into eating disorder therapy?
Many clients with eating disorders report or are diagnosed with a co-occurring psychiatric disorder such as trauma, PTSD, Depression, Anxiety, substance Use and OCD. We use EMDR and ART to process trauma, PTSD, negative core beliefs, feelings of worthlessness, and other distressful, underlying concerns associated with eating disorders. We usually focus first on stabilization, and when clients are ready we start processing.
How do I know whether outpatient therapy is appropriate?
We complete a full eating disorder assessment to determine if outpatient is the right level of care for you. Sometimes we can even determine the need for a higher level of care during our first consultation.
